Dieffenbachia occurs as genus of tropical plants in the Family Araceae noted for their patterned leaves. Members of this genus are popular as houseplants because of their tolerance to shade.
A cells of the dieffenbachia plant contain needle-shaped calcium oxalate crystals called raphides. In case the leaf is chewed, these crystals induced the burning sensation in the mouth and throat; swelling can occur along with the irregular inability to speak, and from either this consequence a plants come ordinarily known as dumb cane or even a mother-inside-law plant. Chew can effect around death if swelling of a throat blocks the airway. Slaves were sometimes punished by having dieffenbachia put into their mouths. Young kids (at a age in which it regularly put items into their mouths) come at chance of suffocatiin & dying whenever it eat or even chew on dieffenbachia leaves. A bit of cats eat houseplants and flowers; it is likewise at chance.
